Organization
The Accelerators and Technology Sector (ATS) has four departments (Beams, Engineering, Accelerator Systems, and Technology). These departments are responsible for the main technical activities of the Sector. Each department consists of a number of technical groups each responsible for a given accelerator discipline.
The ATS Directorate Office (ATS-DO Unit) is home to the Project Office and the main project teams, and a number of transversal activities.

ATS OFFICE
ATS Departments
The ATS sector is has 4 main departments; Beams, Technology, Engineering and Accelerator Systems. The responsibilities of the departments serve to assure the core accelerator infrastructure and associated facilities.

BE Mandate
The CERN Beams (BE) Department is responsible for the conception, design, survey, alignment, control and operation of all CERN accelerators, technical infrastructure, accelerator test facilities, secondary beam lines and experimental areas. It maintains world-class expertise and state-of-the-art knowledge in the associated specialized fields, including particle beam dynamics, particle simulation codes, novel acceleration techniques, precise timing, robotics, mechatronics, and geodetic metrology. The BE Department conducts pioneering research and development in these areas, in close collaboration with European and international partners, to continuously improve the CERN accelerator and experimental-area complexes and to meet the requirements of future upgrades and projects. The BE Department also provides CERN with powerful accelerator and industrial controls systems, frameworks and tools as well as the facilities for radiation testing and electronics design and production. The BE Department is fully committed to the safety, environmental sustainability, and long-term viability of its activities and to training and developing the next generation of physicist, engineers and technicians in its domains of expertise.

TE Mandate
The CERN Technology (TE) Department is responsible for designing, developing, operating and maintaining superconducting and normal-conducting magnets, magnet and circuit protection systems, cryogenic installations, and ultra-high vacuum systems. It maintains world-class expertise and state-of-the-art knowledge in the associated specialized technological fields such as low and high temperature superconducting technology, machine protection and electrical quality assurance, cryogenic and vacuum technology, and coating and surface treatment techniques. The TE Department performs the research and development in these areas required for the consolidation and upgrade of the existing CERN accelerator complex and for future CERN projects, in full collaboration with European partners and international collaborators. The TE Department is fully committed to the safety, environmental sustainability, and long-term viability of its activities, and to training and developing the next generation of physicists, engineers and technicians in its domains of expertise.

EN Mandate
The CERN Engineering (EN) Department is responsible for designing, constructing, installing, operating, maintaining and decommissioning CERN-wide critical services such as cooling, ventilation, transport, handling, electricity, personnel protection systems. It houses the central mechanical workshop and provides the mechanical engineering and materials expertise for the design, prototyping, manufacturing and assembly of accelerator and experimental detector components, the technical coordination for all activities carried out during the shutdown of the accelerator complex and experimental facilities, and the supporting engineering information management systems. The EN Department fosters innovation, with a strong commitment to safety, quality assurance, sustainability and to the development of the next generation of technicians and engineers.

SY Mandate
The CERN Accelerator Systems (SY) Department is responsible for designing, constructing, operating, and decommissioning accelerator systems in the areas of Normal and Superconducting Radio Frequency systems, Beam Instrumentation, Beam Intercepting Devices, Beam Injection, Extraction and Transfer, and Power Conversion. It maintains world-class expertise and state-of-the-art knowledge in the associated specialized technological fields such as radio-frequency engineering, acceleration techniques, electromagnetic and photonic sensor technology, beam-matter interaction, pulsed magnet technology, and precise current generation and measurement. The SY Department carries out pioneering research and development in these areas, in full collaboration with European partners and international collaborators, to ensure the continuous improvement of the CERN accelerator systems, and to address the needs of future upgrades and projects. The SY Department is fully committed to the safety, environmental sustainability, and long-term viability of its activities, and to training and developing the next generation of physicists, engineers and technicians in its domains of expertise.
ATS-DO Unit
The ATS-DO Unit is responsible for providing strategic direction and support to the CERN ATS sector for key projects and activities such as HL-LHC, FCC, CLIC, Medical Accelerators & Applications, EU activities, and the CERN Accelerator School (CAS).
